Investors rarely care about your pitch deck. They care about answering these questions.

Investors Don’t Invest Because of Your Pitch Deck: They Want Answers to These Questions

Many founders spend hours or even money crafting elaborate pitch decks with the belief that a compelling presentation will secure funding. In practice, the opposite often happens.

There’s a common pattern I see here: aspiring founders seek advice on how to attract investors to their idea or company. The reality is that investors rely on structured criteria to evaluate opportunities. While individual investors may weigh factors differently, most aim to answer the same core questions about a business.

The Concept (20–30%)
– Is the concept differentiated and novel?
– Is there a credible path for development?
– Can the concept be extended or expanded?
– Is there potential for protection or defensibility?

The Team (20–40%)
– Is the team coachable and adaptable?
– Is the team balanced in skills and roles?
– Can team members work well together?
– Are there noticeable gaps or weaknesses?
– Do they bring relevant experience?

The Market (10–20%)
– How large is the overall market?
– What is the initial niche the product will address?
– Are there additional markets to target later?

The Path to Market (30–40%)
– Who are the direct and indirect competitors?
– Who are the potential channel partners?
– What are the selling costs and go-to-market expenses?

The Valuation (20–30%)
– Is the proposed valuation competitive with comparable investments?
– Does the opportunity compete effectively for available investment dollars?

If you’re seeking investment, focus on articulating clear, evidence-based answers to these questions rather than relying on a flashy deck alone. A strong, credible narrative that demonstrates product feasibility, a capable team, sizable and reachable markets, a practical go-to-market plan, and a fair valuation will resonate more with investors than slides alone.
