Reflections on Industry Integrity: The Growing Desire to Speak Out
Over the years working in this industry, I have developed a growing sense of frustration and concern regarding the pervasive issues within our field. From organizational disarray to the unethical practices some clients engage in, it’s become increasingly difficult to overlook the problematic elements that undermine professional standards and integrity.
One of the most troubling trends I’ve observed is the frequent attempt by clients to incorporate questionable assets, especially those generated by AI, into their projects without proper transparency or ethical consideration. Additionally, the targeting of individuals based on current events, coupled with the manipulation of information, exacerbates the sense that our industry is often riding a wave of disinformation and exploitation.
This environment prompts me to ponder the importance of whistleblowing and transparency. I often find myself wishing I could dedicate the majority of my time to educating others about these issues—the mechanics behind the unethical practices and the reasons to support responsible, trustworthy companies rather than the questionable ones that seem to dominate the landscape.
Of course, this post is also a form of venting. Watching how my company has devolved into what I can only describe as a chaotic environment is exhausting. Burnout is a genuine concern, and I know I’m not alone in feeling overwhelmed by the sense that much of what we see and experience is a ‘shitshow.’
So, I ask: Has anyone else out there felt similarly, haunted by the realization of the industry’s pitfalls and the desire to speak out? How do you cope with these feelings of frustration and disillusionment? Let’s open a dialogue on maintaining integrity and resilience amid these challenging times.
